The region of the Osa Peninsula and Bahia Coronado ( From Drake Bay until Uvita ) is preferred region for Humpback Whales that come from both the cold South American Coast ( Southern Chile ) and the North American Coast ( Washington State and nearby ). They come to the warm and calm water in Costa Rica for giving birth, growing up the young ones and also spend some months feeding them and feeding and playing in the area. The Humpback Whale is the most frequent visit in the area, traveling in groups of up to 15 members, including large males, large females and young ones. Other species include the False Orca, Orcas, Pilot Whales and other species.
The Whale Watching Tour is a great family eco adventure trip. Watching the whales jump breech and play around is quite impressive, since they are among the larger species of whale. You might even encounter them during tours such as Snorkeling Caño Island ( on the way to the Island ) or the Boat Tour to Sirena. You can inquire about when the beest whale watching seasons begins and ends.
